Working Time Regulations

  • Regulations governing entitlements for annual leave, rest breaks while at work and weekly rest, known as Working Time Regulations, are derived from EU regulations.

These predominantly relate to health & safety matters so complaints are managed by the Health & Safety Executive, which can:

    • Impose financial penalties
    • Serve improvement notices to an employment Tribunal

More complex industry or sector-specific regulations, such as those applying to road transport, govern the maximum working hours and break entitlements.
